Gangotri is a sacred pilgrimage site in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, and one of the four Char Dham shrines. Located at an altitude of about 3,100 meters, it is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, who is believed to have descended to earth here. The Gangotri Temple, built in the 18th century, stands on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. The temple opens during Akshaya Tritiya (April/May) and closes on Diwali (Oct/Nov). Surrounded by Himalayan beauty, Gangotri holds great spiritual significance and marks the origin point of the holy Ganga.
