Yamunotri is a sacred pilgrimage site located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. It is the source of the Yamuna River and one of the four shrines of the revered Char Dham Yatra. Situated at an altitude of around 3,291 meters, Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, who is worshipped for protection from untimely death and for spiritual purification. The main temple, built in the 19th century, houses a black idol of the goddess and is surrounded by natural beauty and thermal springs like Surya Kund. Pilgrims reach the temple after a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti, and the site remains open to devotees from April/May (Akshaya Tritiya) to October/November (Yama Dwitiya).
